An automatic transmission raises the price to $24,498, and all-wheel drive (AWD) increases it to $25,998.

Starting at almost $28,000, the 2021 Hyundai Tucson is several thousand dollars more expensive than the Qashqai, and that is the FWD model. AWD adds another $2,000 to the price tag, and standard features include an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, wireless smartphone connectivity, LD headlights, and forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection. There are five total models from which buyers can choose.

The 2021 Nissan Qashqai offers the best value to drivers in Canada based on its pricing structure and standard features, including a full suite of driver-assist technologies. On the Tucson, those are only available for an additional cost or at a higher-priced trim level.

Design

The 2021 Nissan Qashqai offers a unique style with crisp lines, slim LED headlights, and the option of having a contrasting roof colour and body colour. That distinctiveness is carried throughout the interior with its sleek dashboard and highlighted touchscreen infotainment system. Inside, the Qashqai provides a surprising amount of space. The flexible seating options provide room for five adults, and the cargo space behind the second row comes in at a respectable 648 litres.

On the other hand, the 2021 Hyundai Tucson is a bit behind the times. Its exterior does nothing to stand out among its crowded class, and the interior layout is simple and clean but lacks the upscale styling of the Qashqai. It is not particularly spacious, and adults would feel cramped in the second row.

Safety

All models of the 2021 Nissan Qashqai include the manufacturer's Full Safety Shield 360 suite of driver-assist technologies. Drivers can feel confident driving an SUV that comes standard with blind spot warning, lane departure warning, high beam assist, rear cross traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

In contrast, drivers will need to spend even more money on a higher trim level of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson if they want similar safety features. Forward collision-avoidance assist is the only standard feature of the entry-level Tucson.
